I'm 16 years old and I'm a Singer/Songwriter from Beverley, East Yorkshire. I have always had a love for singing but in 2010, I started to attend the Hull City Council Creative Voice music sessions. From this I have been given the opportunity to perform and build my confidence, whilst performing with other young people. My first opportunity was to sing in the 2010 Freedom Festival, at Fruit Humber Street. This was a whole new scene singing to an audience but I loved it, I even went to gather more crowds by singing on my own at the top of Humber Street.
I was becoming a little more confident and played at various gigs such as The Coolture event held at the City Hall, The Pickering Park (Hull) 100th year celebration, Creative Voice sessions at The Lamp, and on two occasions I performed with other young people in the Musicport event held at Bridlington Spa.
In 2010 I joined my school gospel choir, and I'm still a keen member. I also decided to teach myself the guitar, and then took to taking lessons at school. I think the past year for me has been a year of festivals, taking part in Beverley Folk Festival with young people from my school. I also took part in the Trinity Festival 2011 and the Freedom Festival 2011.
My next gig was Tribfest in the under 18's Acoustic tent, organised by Freedom Road Creative Arts. As well as school and gigs I started to attend an open mic night, which is held at George's Bar Driffield and organised by Singer/Songwriter Edwina Hayes. My dreams soon became reality when Edwina asked me to support her, at a gig in The Old Courthouse, Thirsk. My first professional gig and to support Edwina Hayes, what more could a 15 year old girl ask for?
